The Mynabirds//Generals
One of my favorite 60s-inspired girl groups, the Mynabirds, released this single about a week ago. The album Generals will be out on Omaha’s own Saddle Creek records June 5th. High hopes are had by all.
And more good news: Anyone interested in downloading this track for themselves can head over to the band’s official website and do the “email in exchange for a free download” dance.

A google search of COOLRUNNINGS reveals their supposed buzzword, an easy cliché to help listeners put the group’s sound in perspective: weird.
And maybe it is. In this track, however, the lo-fi is almost overpowering. Almost too much. But just almost.
“Funeral Song” by Minks from By The Hedge
The Minks are a 6-man band out of Brooklyn, not to be confused with the all-girl Kinks tribute band of the same name.
By the Hedge was released in January of this year.

Phantogram - Don’t Move
If you haven’t heard this yet, get on it.
The Generationals- When They Fight, They Fight
I’ve posted this before, but it’s just too good.
When they fight, they fight
And when they come home at night, they say,
“I love you, baby.”

JACKIE WILSON - LIGHT MY FIRE (DOORS COVER)
This is a truly great and soulful flip of the classic Doors tune. Don’t miss this one. It’s a gem.

Portugal. The Man - Share With Me the Sun
Anyone who doesn’t wholeheartedly enjoy In the Mountain In the Cloud
is not my friend.
Blouse is a warehouse band out of Portland and their track Videotapes is the first on their soon-to-be-released self-titled debut LP. No, that’s not a typo. LP, not EP. They’re hip, you know.
Anyway, abeano.com calls it “the kind of vintage synth sounds even the 80s would call retro.” That’s not my style, in fact that’s very far from my style but I really enjoy this track regardless. Check it out and if you’re feeling it too, it’s available for free download at the previously-mentioned website.
